October is Domestic Violence Action Month (DVAM)
At WEAVE, we know that raising awareness about domestic violence is essential — but we also believe awareness alone is not enough. Real change happens when we move from awareness to action. Throughout DVAM, we invite our community to take meaningful steps that support survivors, prevent violence, and create a future where everyone can live safe, healthy, and free from abuse.
Thank You to Our DVAM Sponsor
We are grateful to Western Health Advantage for their generous support of Domestic Violence Action Month. Their partnership helps us take awareness into action and make a greater impact for survivors in our community.
Understanding Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is more common than most people realize—and it’s not always physical. It can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, income, religion, culture, or background. That’s why it’s so important to understand what domestic violence is, how it shows up, and how you can support someone who may be experiencing it.

How You Can Support a Victim: Recognize, Respond, Refer
You don’t have to be an expert to help. Just being informed, compassionate, and ready to act can make a huge difference.
1. Recognize the Signs – Victims may not always speak up, but you might notice unexplained injuries, absences from work, or withdrawal from activities.
2. Respond with Compassion – If you suspect someone is experiencing abuse the most important thing you can do is believe them and listen without judgement. Trust that the survivor is the expert of their situation and provide them with support and resources, like WEAVE.
3. Refer to WEAVE – WEAVE is Sacramento’s leading provider of support for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking. You can refer someone to WEAVE by:
- Calling the 24/7 Support Line: (916) 920-2952
- Visiting www.weaveinc.org for resources and services
- Offering to help them connect with WEAVE if they’re unsure or afraid

You don’t need to have all the answers—just being there and knowing where to turn can change someone’s life.
