Children's Counseling

Overview

Children’s Counseling

WEAVE’s Children’s Counseling program offers free individual counseling for children ages 4 and older who have witnessed domestic violence, experienced dating violence and/or sexual assault and abuse. To apply for children’s services, please get an application from the business office or if you are currently receiving counseling services at WEAVE please ask your counselor. Once you have submitted an application to the business office, you will be contacted and scheduled for a parent intake.

Intakes for children under 12 years of age are not completed during walk-in triage hours.

To receive services, the parent applying for children’s counseling must have full legal custody or written consent from the other parent.

The primary goals of children’s counseling are to decrease isolation and self blame, build self-esteem and teach healthy coping skills so that children may deal with their experience in a safe, supportive space. Children may learn how to identify, express and manage feelings, problem solving skills, healthy conflict resolution, safety planning, healthy vs. unhealthy boundaries and assertive communication skills. Most importantly, we hope to provide a supportive environment where children learn they are not alone, it was not their fault and feel safe to express themselves and their feelings.
