Recognizing and Supporting Older Survivors

Post

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month, with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day recognized on June 15—a time to shine a light on an often hidden form of abuse affecting older adults in our communities. Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, financial, and neglect, and it often goes unreported due to isolation, fear, or dependence on the abuser.

At WEAVE, we know that older survivors face unique challenges and barriers when seeking help. That’s why we have a designated Older Adult Advocate who provides specialized support, resources, and advocacy tailored to the needs of older adults. From safety planning to navigating complex systems, this dedicated role ensures that survivors receive compassionate, informed care that respects their autonomy and dignity.

Sacramento Elder Financial Abuse Summit

The Sacramento Elder Financial Abuse Summit brings together local agencies, advocates, and community partners to address the growing issue of elder financial abuse in our community. Attendees will hear from expert speakers on the current state of elder financial exploitation, explore cultural considerations, and participate in collaborative discussions focused on strengthening community response efforts. WEAVE is proud to serve as a presenter for this important event alongside fellow community organizations working to support and protect older adults.

The summit will take place on June 16, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law. Attendance is free, but registration is required and space is limited. Lunch will be provided.
