The Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) Coalition

Post

The RPE project is a five-year demonstration project that aims to engage the South Sacramento community in prevention education for sexual and intimate partner violence. Running from 2024 to 2029, the project aims to enact local policy change, in the hopes of creating safer spaces for the LGBT+ community, improving community environments, and transforming gender norms. The approach is to build the RPE Coalition to implement these objectives.

Made up of a youth subcommittee and an adult subcommittee, RPE Coalition members will be trained in topics such as leadership skills, professional communication, advocacy, gender socialization, and more. The Coalition offers members opportunities to network within and across subcommittees, collaborate with community partners, build resumes, and receive community service credit for a state-funded demonstration project.

Members will first undergo trainings, then perform a landscape analysis to recognize and understand the problems within the South Sacramento community. They will then address these concerns by brainstorming and implementing programming, whether that be in the form of prevention education, social media campaigns, or community outreach. These efforts will also extend to policy impact.

More information surrounding the application process will be released in the upcoming year. There are stipends available for participants.
