Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Response Services Manager, the Crisis Response Advocate answers WEAVE’s 24-hour Support and Information Line and provides SART response including crisis intervention advocacy, accompaniment, education, referrals and follow-up services to victims of sexual assault with the goal of reducing trauma.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

24-hour Support and Information Line

  • Provides information about WEAVE services and other appropriate referrals to callers.
  • Provides triage and crisis intervention counseling via telephone.
  • Provides danger assessment and safety planning for crisis line callers.
  • Identifies and reports cases of suspected child, elder and dependent abuse.
  • Conducts screenings of clients requesting emergency shelter.
  • Enters all call data into database in a timely manner.
  • Dispatches SART Advocates as requested
  • Saturday’s 24 hour on-call

Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)

  • Provides accompaniment to the hospital for sexual assault victims who are seeking medical treatment and/or receiving a medical evidentiary exam.
  • Provides accompaniment to law enforcement, District Attorney or Social Service interviews/appointments for victims whom request it.
  • Provides crisis intervention counseling, emotional support, education and referrals to sexual assault victims and/or their significant others at the hospital.
  • Advocates on behalf of the sexual assault victim, when requested by the victim, with the victim¢s significant others, law enforcement and/or hospital staff.
  • Follows up with victims with a phone call within 72 hours of their exams and makes a second call within 24 hours if no contact was made.
  • Maintains accurate client records and enters SART data into database in a timely manner.
  • Communicates with WEAVE¢s Response Services Supervisor and Manager, as needed, for support and supervision
  • In addition to regularly scheduled hours at the Safehouse, mandatory “Standby/On-call” shifts required.

Other Responsibilities/Duties

  • Assists in the maintenance of current community resource referral list
  • Provides buddy training and support to new volunteers and staff in crisis intervention techniques and other topics related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
  • Models appropriate professional behavior and intervention skills for volunteers
  • Attends staff meetings, and continuing education presentations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree and 2 years experience or 5 years of experience or any combination of education and experience to meet job requirements.
  • Experience with domestic violence, sexual assault and/or human trafficking services preferred
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal
  • Excellent crisis intervention, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Bilingual/bicultural individual preferred
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Word

Post Hire Requirements:

  • Successfully complete WEAVE’s 65-hour Peer Counselor Training as determined by the Director of Counseling and Outreach
  • Maintain Peer Counselor Certification by attending continuing education presentations and submitting proper documentation annually
  • Must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Provide copy of valid California driver license, have reliable transportation, and submit proof of vehicle insurance
  • Satisfactory results from DOJ background check.
