Violence Prevention Navigator

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Health Outreach Manager, the Violence Prevention Navigator responds to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking and provides specialized response services including lethality assessments, safety planning, connects survivors to appropriate WEAVE services and the broader community safety net. The Navigator works mainly with referrals from medical providers, law enforcement, and Continuum of Care collaborative partners. The Navigator is available to respond to hospitals, clinics, police substations, and other community partner locations to meet with individuals in need of support

Responsibilities:

  • Direct Client Services
  • Work with victims at high risk of continued or escalating violence to offer alternatives to remaining in the relationship including shelter, transitional housing, legal intervention/advocacy and support with their health, criminal justice, housing and economic empowerment needs
  • Perform  risk assessments of victims referred to the program and enroll those victims at highest risk of serious injury or death into the program
  • Conduct comprehensive safety planning, screen for shelter, and provide access to legal assistance for victims of domestic violence
  • Work with victims to develop case-specific plans to interrupt the cycle of escalating violence and minimize the risk of further abuse and homelessness
  • Work with the victim to identify additional barriers to safety, to set reasonable goals for overcoming barriers and establish the necessary action steps
  • Work with WEAVE Prevention Educators to provide trainings to law enforcement, medical providers, and collaborative partners specific to the importance of and us of risk assessments, resources available and program referral process
  • Provide trainings to collaborative partners specific to how to recognize, respond, and refer victims of domestic violence including information about how to directly access the Navigator for immediate response when victims are
  • Maintain accurate and complete client files
  • Identify, assess and report cases of suspected child abuse/neglect to Child Protective Services
  • Advocate for clients with the health system, schools, the legal system, social service and community agencies and other helping professionals
  • Foster problem-solving, conflict resolution and non-violent interactive skills

    24-hour Support and Information Line

  • Provides information about WEAVE services and other appropriate referrals to callers.
  • Provides triage and crisis intervention counseling via telephone.
  • Provides danger assessment and safety planning for crisis line callers.
  • Identifies and reports cases of suspected child, elder and dependent abuse.
  • Conducts screenings of clients requesting emergency shelter.
  • Enters all call data into database in a timely manner.
  • Dispatches Advocates as requested
  • Other Responsibilities
  • Attend and participate in WEAVE  and external meetings and committees, as assigned
  • Maintain accurate timesheets and other work-related documents
  • Represent the agency in community speaking engagements and networking opportunities, as assigned
  • Other job duties as assigned
  • Qualifications

  • Masters Degree preferred; BA/BS plus 2 years experience or equivalent experience required
  • Experience working with clients who have experienced domestic violence and sexual assault preferred 
  • Healthcare experience preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Bilingual/bicultural individual preferred
  • Successful completion of WEAVE’s 68 hour classroom training and counselor certification program (post-hiring requirement) per Director of Counseling and Outreach
  • Provide copy of valid California driver license, have reliable transportation, and submit current proof of vehicle insurance
  • Satisfactory results from DOJ background check and TB Test (post employment offer requirement)
