Position Summary:

The Community Educator/College Advocate is responsible for conducting sexual assault, domestic violence and sex trafficking prevention education and outreach to schools, colleges and the community. The position will be responsible for assisting/facilitating Volunteer Orientation and WEAVE 101, Peer Counselor Trainings, and Continuing Education; coordinating volunteers, volunteer data and community fair/tabling requests; conducting college advocacy at the Los Rios Community Colleges; and under the supervision of the Director of Training & Education and in partnership with the Communications and Philanthropy teams, assist in the development and design social media content.

Responsibilities:

Community Education

  • Facilitate presentations for K-12 schools, colleges and in the community
  • Maintain effective working relationships with schools, colleges, agencies and businesses
  • Collect and record prevention education data within required deadlines
  • Actively seek out presentation and training opportunities
  • Coordinate and supervise prevention education tabling and outreach events
  • Collaborate with P&E department staff to meet the needs of the department
  • Assist with Peer Counselor Trainings
  • Attend and actively participate in department meetings
  • Attend and participate in staff and other agency meetings and committees
  • Provide coverage for front office staff as needed
  • Maintain accurate timesheets and other work-related documents
  • Other job duties as assigned

Volunteer Coordination

  • Serve as point of contact/coordinate volunteers and community fair tabling requests
  • Assist/facilitate Volunteer Orientation and WEAVE 101
  • Responsible for maintaining volunteer files and data
  • Serve as point of contact/maintain Continuing Education forms on an annual basis for staff and volunteers

Social Media

  • Responsible for aligning social media messaging to agency mission, vision, values, and priorities in partnership with the Communications and Philanthropy teams.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to plan relevant social media content.
  • Designs and schedules social media posts for agency campaigns including awareness months, WEAVE events, and Community Partner Events.
  • Responsible for tracking social media performance on all platforms and reporting progress monthly.

 

Community College Advocacy

  • Act as the Confidential Advocate with LRCCD, providing students/faculty with emotional support, reporting options, advocacy, accompaniment on-campus and resources
  • Facilitate prevention education presentations and trainings on Domestic and Sexual Violence for students, faculty and the community
  • Maintain effective working relationships with college and community
  • Collect and record outreach data within required guidelines
  • Serve as point of contact and coordinate outreach events, presentations and tabling requests on community college campuses

 

ADA Job Characteristics:

Work environment is primarily in a busy office setting. Local travel may be required in the set-up and/ or attendance of off-site meetings. Continuously perform the following: Lift and carry 25 lbs., extend both arms above the head and/or reach below the waist; stoop, squat, crawl, bend the back to open lower-level filing drawers, or to retrieve stored items; climb a ladder to retrieve items from shelves; climb stairs or use an elevator. Sit frequently and/or or stand when filing, copying, etc. Use fine manipulation (hands and wrist) to operate a keyboard, take notes; utilize desk calculator, file and copy documents. Corrected vision to normal range. Speak in normal vocal tone and range, and communicate clearly and concisely to others. Apply normal to above average reasoning and detail as required in the accomplishment of job duties. Drive a vehicle and run errands as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field
  • Prior public speaking experience
  • Knowledge of prevention education strategies, domestic violence, sexual assault and sex trafficking
  • Prior public speaking skills
  • Prior experience working with survivors of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence
  • Knowledge and demonstrated commitment to the WEAVE mission and values
  • Social media knowledge and experience, including graphic design and campaign awareness planning
  • Intermediate computer skills in MS Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Office and Outlook. Type 45 – 50 wpm with accuracy
  • Experienced with most office machines including telephone systems, calculator, computers, PowerPoint equipment, fax machines, and photocopiers
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and high degree of professionalism
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Valid California Driver’s license, current auto insurance, reliable auto transportation, and satisfactory driving record
  • Hiring requirements include a criminal records background check clearance. Though not required, a TB test is strongly recommended
  • Peer Counseling Training required
