Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Counseling Services Manager and Chief Program Officer for Counseling and Outreach, the Children’s Counselor will provide direct services to children, youth and adults.

Responsibilities:

Direct Client Services

  • Provide individual and group counseling for children/youth/adults including play therapy, adult therapy, family therapy, parent support groups and psychoeducational groups.
  • Work collaboratively with Residential program staff
  • Maintain accurate and complete client files
  • Identify, assess and report cases of suspected child abuse/neglect to Child Protective Services
  • Advocate for the concerns of clients with their support systems, schools, the legal system, social service agencies and other helping professionals
  • Foster problem-solving, conflict resolution and non-violent interactive skills among parents and children

Other Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in agency meetings and committees, as assigned
  • Maintain accurate timesheets and other work-related documents
  • Represent the agency in community speaking engagements and networking opportunities, as assigned
  • Other job duties as assigned

 Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or Social Work. Registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (ASW/LCSW, AMFT/LMFT or APCC/LPCC) is required.
  • Minimum of two years counseling experience. Relevant field placement experience will be considered. Play/Art therapy experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children and/or youth in clinical or non-clinical role.
  • Experience working with domestic violence and sexual assault preferred
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Bilingual/bicultural individual preferred
  • Complete WEAVE’s 69-hour classroom training and peer counselor certification program (post-hiring requirement)
  • Provide copy of valid California driver license, have reliable transportation, and submit current proof of vehicle insurance
  • Regular Attendance
  • Satisfactory results from DOJ background check (post employment offer requirement
