On-Call (Back-up) Overnight Safehouse Advocate
On-Call Hourly Non-Exempt
WEAVE is recruiting multiple staff for the On-Call (Back-up) Overnight Safehouse Advocate position. Applications received by 6/1/2023 will be reviewed June 2023 in preparation for WEAVE’s Summer Peer Counselor Training scheduled for July 2023. Applications received by 12/1/2023 will be reviewed December 2023 in preparation for WEAVE’s Winter Peer Counselor Training scheduled for January 2024.
The pay is $40 flat rate for being on call and $20/hour if called in. The scheduled hours are from 10 pm-6 am.

Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Residential Services Manager, when called in to cover an overnight shift, the On-call (Back-up) Overnight Safehouse Advocate is responsible for providing crisis intervention counseling, advocacy, and information and referrals to individuals calling the agency’s 24-hour support line. The On-call (Back-up) Overnight Safehouse Advocate is responsible for providing a trauma informed services to survivors and their children and maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for clients at the WEAVE Safehouse Campus.
Responsibilities:
Direct Services
- Provide advocacy for clients.
- Ensure clients are being provided with internal referrals to WEAVE Services.
- Maintain high visibility and availability throughout the shelter and initiate contact with residents and provide a welcoming and nonjudgmental environment.
- Provide emergency food and clothing.
- Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, information, and referrals to individuals calling the agency’s 24-hour Support and Information Line when needed.
- Maintain accurate client records and statistics, ETO data entry in a timely manner.
- Maintain close communication with other shelter staff.
- Prepare welcome packets, intake folders, and replenish copies.
Facilities Support Services
- Maintain a professional and courteous manner with all management, staff, clients, vendors, building tenants and contractors.
- Maintain and follow safety policies and procedures by notifying supervisor of any potential hazards.
- Perform housekeeping tasks such as: laundry, stocking and restocking bathroom, kitchen, and office supplies. Maintain track of inventory such as: cleaning products and office supplies needed. Assist with organizing and sorting donations received for WEAVE and its clients. Execute tasks and cleaning projects related to cleaning, relocating items, and organizing spaces at WEAVE’s residential facility.
- Assist with preparing rooms for intakes and making welcome bags.
- Assist with workshops and planned activities.
Other Responsibilities
- Complete WEAVE’s 69-hour Peer Counselor training and complete continuing education requirements to maintain certification.
- Expected to sign-up for a minimum of 4 shifts a month to keep on-call employment status.
- To ensure coverage, on-call staff are expected to provide at least two-week advance notice if they are no longer able to cover a shift. Excessive or a pattern of calling out can result in corrective action up to and including termination.
- Maintain accurate and timely timesheets.
- Maintain a working knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Be familiar with legal, medical, housing, educational and social service agencies and resources in the community which may be of use to residents.
- Complete specific overnight duties / tasks as provided.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Combination of education and experience to successfully implement the job tasks and responsibilities. Related experience in providing domestic violence and residential services preferred.
- Crisis intervention, de-escalation, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
- Provide copy of valid California driver license, have reliable transportation, and submit current proof of vehicle insurance.
- Residential facility operates 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Ability to be on-call and respond for all overnight back-up shifts for which they sign-up.
- Understand the impact of trauma on physical, emotional, and mental health as well as on behaviors and engagement in services.
- Believes in WEAVE’s mission by helping to create a safe environment for survivors and staff and establishing healthy relationships to support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking.

Work environment is primarily in an emergency shelter / 24-7 facility. May need to lift and carry 25 lbs., extend both arms above the head and/or reach below the waist, stoop, squat, crawl, bend the back to retrieve items, climb stairs, or use an elevator. Employee may also need to remain in one position (i.e. sitting or standing) for an extended period of time while completing work tasks. Must be able to efficiently operate a keyboard and mouse or adaptive equivalent, take notes; utilize desk tools such as phones or calculators, and utilize larger office equipment such as printers and copy machines.
