Advocate – Human Trafficking
Full-Time Non-Exempt, Benefit Eligible
WEAVE’s mission is to promote safe and healthy relationships and support survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and sex trafficking. WEAVE’s vision is a community free of violence and abuse.
Salary Ranges: $22.40/hr. – $26.34/hr. DOE.
Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Community Response Manager and the Director of Community Response, the Advocate will support survivors of human trafficking referred by self, law enforcement, hospitals, and community partners by providing emergency response and assistance, emotional support, strengths-based case management, and appropriate resources. The Advocate is responsible for outreaching to, engaging, and building community partnerships with community service providers and businesses where survivors may be, so they are aware of and know how to access WEAVE’s services. The Advocate may participate in law enforcement sting operations, facilitate peer support groups, and will help to grow WEAVE’s programs to support survivors of trafficking.
Essential Functions:
Direct Services
- Conduct outreach, engage, and build community partnerships with community service providers and businesses where survivors may be, so they are aware of and know how to access WEAVE’s services.
- Assess clients’ situation and needs to determine if WEAVE services are appropriate, including strengths, housing, and financial assessments.
- Accompany law enforcement on sting operations for victim advocacy support
- Utilize a Strengths Model case management approach to assist clients in obtaining self-identified goals, strengths, and strategies to overcome barriers
- Assist survivors with respite services and support clients in WEAVE’s housing for survivors of human trafficking
- Advocate on behalf of clients with outside agencies (housing, medical, social services, etc.)
- Conduct warm hand-offs to internal and external referrals to community partners and resources
- Attend and actively participate in local and regional meetings and training related to service provision for trafficking victims
- Foster problem-solving, conflict resolution, and non-violent interactive skills
- Facilitate peer support groups at various community partner locations when needed
- Provide individual peer support when requested
- Provide follow-up and case management services to WEAVE clients as assigned
- Provide court accompaniment when possible
- Complete data entry timely, and contribute narrative to grant progress reporting
- Communicate with Community Response Manager, as needed, for support and supervision
Work Environment
- Must be comfortable advocating for survivors with individuals who work in positions of authority such as law enforcement, medical and mental health teams, probation, etc.
- Must be able to advise and work cooperatively with coworkers, partners, and service providers
Other Responsibilities:
- Represent and fulfill WEAVE’s mission to promote safe and healthy relationships and support survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and sex trafficking.
- Attend various meetings (unit, advocate, all staff, and in-service) as required
- Complete accurately and timely all necessary data entry, forms, case records, and statistical reports. Submits such documentation to the supervisor/manager within the designated timelines.
- Fulfill contract obligations and requirements
- Assist in the development of presentation/training curriculum when needed
- Attend and actively contribute to regular supervisory and team/unit meetings, internal training sessions, conferences, seminars, and independent study.
- Adhere to professional standards and initiate requests for assistance from Supervisor to address new issues or complex concepts.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Combination of education and experience to successfully fulfill position requirements, lived experience appreciated.
- Experience with crisis intervention around domestic and sexual violence and sex trafficking preferred
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives from community partners and social service agencies
- Self-directed and self-motivated required
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and data entry
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Regular attendance
- Consistent demonstration of positive, cooperative, self-motivated, and professional behavior
- Work with individuals with different areas of expertise, backgrounds, knowledge, and skillsets
- Ability to be a team player and commit to working together to reach goals
- Complete WEAVE’s 69-hour training and certification program (post-hiring requirement)
- Provide a copy of a valid California driver’s license, have reliable transportation, and submit current proof of vehicle insurance
- Satisfactory results from DOJ background check and TB Test (post-employment offer requirement)

Work environment is a busy office setting in a two-story building with stairs and an elevator. May need to lift and carry 25 lbs., extend both arms above the head and/or reach below the waist, stoop, squat, crawl, bend the back to retrieve items, climb stairs, or use an elevator. Employee may also need to remain in one position (i.e. sitting or standing) for an extended period of time while completing work tasks. Must be able to efficiently operate a keyboard and mouse or adaptive equivalent, take notes; utilize desk tools such as phones or calculators, and utilize larger office equipment such as printers and copy machines.
