Position Summary:

WEAVE is seeking a strong Advocate to work with incarcerated youth in Sacramento County’s Youth Detention Facility (YDF). To succeed in this position, the Advocate should be organized, skilled in facilitating interactive conversations and activities with youth, open minded and able to hold space for non-judgmental conversation and healing, as well as able to advocate confidently beside people who work in positions of authority and hold strong boundaries.

Under the direct supervision of the Violence Response Team Manager, the Advocate facilitates educational groups and provides supportive services to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and sex trafficking at YDF. Services provided by the Advocate include individual follow-up, crisis intervention, accompaniment, education, and referrals. The Advocate will work collaboratively with the Lead Sexual Assault Advocate on developing and implement services, as well as provide back up to the SART Advocate during business hours, complete data entry, and provide follow-up calls to victims at the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Crisis Response, Peer Support, and Advocacy/Case Management

  • Facilitate educational and peer support groups for incarcerated survivors of sexual abuse.
  • Assist Lead Sexual Assault Advocate with program responsibilities.
  • Accompany sexual assault victims to the hospital for medical treatment and/or a medical evidentiary exam.
  • Accompany sexual assault victims as requested to law enforcement agencies for legal proceedings, or interviews.
  • Provide crisis intervention, advocacy, emotional support, education and referrals to sexual assault victims as needed.
  • Provides follow-up case management services to victims as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate client records and enter data into database in a timely manner. 
  • Communicate with WEAVE¢s Violence Response Team Manager, as needed, for support and supervision.
  • Hold regular office hours for victim follow-up calls at the Sacramento Sherriff’s Department (SSD) office and build rapport with SSD officers and detectives.

 

Other Responsibilities/Duties

 

  • Assist in the maintenance of current community resource referral list
  • Model appropriate professional behavior and intervention skills
  • Attend mandatory program and staff meetings.
  • Other tasks as assigned

 

ADA Job Characteristics:

 

Work environment is primarily from WEAVE’s Midtown office and co-located with County Partners such as Sacramento County YDF and Sheriff’s Department.  Local travel (driving) is required to respond to calls and attend off-site meetings. Lift and carry 25 lbs., extend both arms above the head and/or reach below the waist, stoop, squat, crawl, bend the back to open lower-level filing drawers, or to retrieve stored items, climb a ladder or stairs, or use an elevator.  Sit frequently.  Use fine manipulation (hands and wrist) to operate a keyboard, take notes, complete and file reports, file and copy documents.  Corrected vision to normal range.  Speak in normal vocal tone and range, and communicate clearly and concisely to and with others.  Apply above average reasoning and detail as required in the accomplishment of job duties.  

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree and 2 years experience or 5 years of experience or any combination of education and experience to meet job requirements. 
  • Experience with domestic violence, sexual assault or human trafficking services preferred
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal
  • Excellent crisis intervention, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Bilingual/bicultural individual preferred
  • Regular Attendance
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Word
  • Complete WEAVE’s 65-hour classroom peer counselor training (post-hiring requirement) and attend amount of required continuing education to maintain certification
  • Provide copy of valid California driver license, have reliable transportation, and submit current proof vehicle insurance
  • Satisfactory results from DOJ background check.
