Position Summary: The Victim Advocate, under the direct supervision of the Response Services Director, provides direct client services to victims of domestic violence, Sex Trafficking, stalking and sexual assault.  This position provides crisis intervention, advocacy, information and referral, follow-up, case management, and education to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Help client locate other resources and makes referrals when appropriate. Provide appropriate court accompaniment. Victim Advocate is primarily located at the Sacramento Native American Health Center (SNAHC).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Close collaborative working relationship with SNAHC staff
• Educate clients about dynamics of domestic violence; including cycle of violence, types of abuse and effects of abuse on children and sexual violence
• Conduct home visits with law enforcement when necessary and appropriate
• Provide crisis intervention counseling, both on the phone and in-person
• Identify and report cases of suspected child or elder abuse as per mandated reporting requirements for counselors
• Advocate on behalf of clients with outside agencies (medical, housing, employment)
• Provide DV presentations/trainings to community agencies.
• Represent WEAVE in community meetings, as needed
• Facilitate WEAVE Services Workshops at SNAHC and other American Indian/Alaskan Native specific community agencies.
• Initiate and maintain relationships with other AI/AN agencies in the community
• Attend prescheduled WEAVE all-staff meetings, Program meetings, and in-service trainings and SNAHC meetings
• Maintain accurate documentation of services
• Submit services report monthly
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Master’s degree in a social services or criminal justice field and one year related experience preferred. Or BA and three years related experience or five years related experience will substitute for degree.

• Experience with crisis intervention, domestic violence, Sexual Abuse, and child abuse/neglect intervention
• Bilingual/BiCultural Individual preferred
• Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community required
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives from medical, criminal justice and social service agencies
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Complete WEAVE’s 70-hour training and certification program (post-hiring requirement)
• Maintain certification by attending 8 in-service hours a year related to sexual assault.
• Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation and insurance.
• Successfully pass DOJ fingerprint check
