Legal Services

Legal services are designed to assist survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in representing themselves, "in pro per," in their family law actions against their abusers in Sacramento County. WEAVE does not provide direct representation.

In an effort to preserve equal access to justice for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, our advocates collaborate with various government agencies and community organizations on behalf of survivors of violence. WEAVE also reviews and comments on proposed legislation affecting the rights of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors.

Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible for legal assistance you must be a self-identified survivor of domestic violence or sexual assault whose abuser has not received services through WEAVE in the past. WEAVE does not require that the survivor provide verification that she/he is a survivor of domestic violence or sexual assault and survivors are not required to access other services at WEAVE prior to or concurrently with receiving legal services. Perpetrators of domestic violence or sexual assault may not receive legal assistance at WEAVE. Individuals suspected of being perpetrators of domestic violence or sexual assault will be referred to the managing attorney for further evaluation and screening.

You may only receive assistance with legal issues relating to domestic violence and/or family law action in Sacramento County. If you need assistance with other legal issues or your case is outside of Sacramento County you will be referred to other resources.
