Crisis Line

Answer:
WEAVE's counselors confirm our clients reflect national trends. Within heterosexual relationships, 90-95% of the perpetrators of domestic violence are male. We are not aware of any published study indicating an increase in the number of female perpetrators. At WEAVE we hope that every survivor of abuse will seek help and that each perpetrator is held accountable – regardless of gender. Some of the reasons for the high percentage may be based on the physical differences of the genders, greater financial earning potential of men compared to women, and the way men are socialized. The actual number of male survivors may be higher because there are factors that may stop a man from seeking help. These factors include fear of reporting to law enforcement and not knowing if services at their local domestic violence center are available to men.
