17th Annual Retire Your Attire Clothing Drive at the State Capitol
California State Legislature continues to reduce barriers for victims of domestic violence

Survivors of domestic violence have been getting suited for success through WEAVE’s job reentry program since 1999. On March 25, WEAVE partners with Nissan for the Retire Your Attire Clothing Drive at the State Capitol. Volunteers will dress up the Capitol with donation boxes to collect gently used clothing for WEAVE’s Suited for Success program.

WEAVE Receives $25,000 from Bank of America
Funding will support WEAVE’s core services and assist in sustaining 24-hour crisis intervention

WEAVE has been awarded $25,000 from Bank of American to support WEAVE’s core services and assist in sustaining 24-hour crisis intervention for Sacramento County. WEAVE provides crisis intervention services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking by operating a 24-hour Safehouse, a 24-hour Support and Information Line, trauma-informed crisis intervention and therapeutic counseling services, legal services and school and community based prevention education.

WEAVE Receives $15,000 from Wells Fargo to Expand Teen Education Efforts
Funding will increase outreach to local teens on Teen Dating Violence Prevention Education

Sacramento, CA — WEAVE has been awarded $15,000 from Wells Fargo to support the MyStrength program, a male-focused teen dating violence prevention education program in area high schools.

WEAVE Receives Two Grants to Support Emergency Safehouse
WEAVE Safehouse Benefits from Essential Grants

Sacramento, CA — WEAVE has been awarded $10,000 from U.S. Bank and $5,000 from the TJX Foundation to support WEAVE’s emergency Safehouse.  The funds will help the 175 adults and 175 children who must enter the WEAVE Safehouse in the next year.  These families are fleeing from immediate danger and severe physical abuse.

WEAVE Receives $35,000 Grant to Expand Services for Women Veterans
Funding will increase outreach to women veterans and access to trauma-informed care.

WEAVE has been awarded $35,000 from Swords to Plowshares as part of a statewide effort to improve health indicators for women veterans in California.  The funds will be used to increase access to crisis intervention and therapeutic counseling services for women who have served in the military and are experiencing or have a history of Inter Personal Violence (IPV) including domestic violence and sexual assault. Funding will support Safehouse, 24-hour Support Line, Counseling Services and more

WEAVE has been awarded $35,000 from Kaiser Permanente Greater Sacramento Area Community Benefit Program to support WEAVE’s core domestic violence services.  The funds will be used to ensure that WEAVE can continue to offer lifesaving crisis intervention services including its safe and confidential Safehouse, 24-hour Support & Information Line, walk in Triage services and trauma-informed therapeutic counseling. WEAVE Executive Director Interviewed by National Blog
Impact of Federal Sequestration on Domestic Violence Shelters Highlighted

WEAVE’s Executive Director, Beth Hassett, was recently interviewed by the non-partisan, nationally recognized blog ThinkProgress.org in response to the pending impact of the federal budget sequestration. Hassett was tapped to provide perspective of cuts on California’s domestic violence agencies within the article which looked at sequestration impact on a national level.

WEAVE Launches Playcare
We Need Your Help to Create a Safe Place for Children

Many of the victims who need our services are parents of young children. Accessing triage, counseling and legal services often means finding childcare.

In response to this need, WEAVE secured funding through the Sacramento Children’s Trust Fund to establish a playcare program at its Midtown Counseling Center. The program is now offering supervised play opportunities for children ages 4 years and older.

Ashley West recognized for her commitment to creating legal solutions for victims

WEAVE Board Member Ashley West received the Women Lawyers of Sacramento’s Community Service Award at the Unity Bar of Sacramento awards banquet on October 25, 2012. Ashley was recognized for her years of commitment to WEAVE and efforts to raise funds to create a comprehensive legal program for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Coaching Boys into Men in the News!

WEAVE participated in a Centers for Disease Control and Research funded evaluation of the effectiveness of the Coaching Boys Into Men program under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Miller. The promising results of the program, validated through this research, were recently published in the Journal of Adolescent Health. The results have received widespread media attention over the past week including the following articles.
