Walk a Mile in Her Shoes presented by Western Health Advantage

On Sunday, April 27, 2014, Capitol Mall will be over taken by more than 700 men who will walk, run, and limp the one-mile walk course while wearing high heels. Full event details and updates can be found here.

Any man can participate for a $40 registration which includes shoes, t-shirt, swag bag, and festival access! When these men come together with the event’s sponsors, more than $210,000 will be raised – critical funds which will ensure 24 hour services are available for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

The Rio Americano Band will be performing in WEAVE’s parking lot! In addition to the great tunes, there will be artist booths and food catered by Drewski’s Hot Rod Kitchen, the most popular food truck in the region.

All donations go to struggling mothers living within the community. This donation drive takes place once a year in the Spring in the months leading up to Mother’s Day and is organized by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, along with the Sacramento Association of REALTORS® Charitable Foundation Inc, 103.9FM THE FISH radio station, and dealsnapt.

17 Year Partnership Supports Survivors Re-entering Workforce

On March 25th, WEAVE partners with Nissan for the Retire Your Attire Clothing Drive at the State Capitol. Volunteers will dress up the Capitol and local Nissan dealerships with donation boxes to collect gently used professional attire for WEAVE’s Suited for Success program.

California State Legislature continues to reduce barriers for victims of domestic violence

Survivors of domestic violence have been getting suited for success through WEAVE’s job reentry program since 1999. On March 25, WEAVE partners with Nissan for the Retire Your Attire Clothing Drive at the State Capitol. Volunteers will dress up the Capitol with donation boxes to collect gently used clothing for WEAVE’s Suited for Success program.

WEAVE Receives $25,000 from Bank of America
Funding will support WEAVE’s core services and assist in sustaining 24-hour crisis intervention

WEAVE has been awarded $25,000 from Bank of American to support WEAVE’s core services and assist in sustaining 24-hour crisis intervention for Sacramento County. WEAVE provides crisis intervention services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking by operating a 24-hour Safehouse, a 24-hour Support and Information Line, trauma-informed crisis intervention and therapeutic counseling services, legal services and school and community based prevention education.

WEAVE Employee Advocate Receives Statewide Award
Sara Joyce Named 2013 Advocate of the Year by The Partnership

On September 25, Sara Joyce, WEAVE’s longest present staff member, received the advocate of the Year Award from the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence, the state’s Domestic Violence Coalition. The Advocate of the Year award was given to an individual who has demonstrated personal commitment to advocacy on behalf of domestic violence victims and survivors and their children, personal qualities and commitment to ethical, peaceful and respectful work with others, and has served in the domestic violence field for at least three years.

Feast for WEAVE at Mulvaney’s B&L
Critical Funds Raised to Support Sexual Assault & Prevention Programs

Feast for WEAVE returned to its original home at Mulvaney’s B&L on Saturday, November 16. Patrick and Bobbin created a memorable night for the 104 guests with a five course meal paired with wines from D’Art Handcrafted Wines.  An eclectic live auction provided guests with a variety of experiences and items for their bidding pleasure.  The evening was capped off with nearly 40 donors ensuring the continuation of WEAVE’s Prevention Education program through the Fund A Need.

Sacramento, CA — WEAVE has been awarded $15,000 from Wells Fargo to support the MyStrength program, a male-focused teen dating violence prevention education program in area high schools.

WEAVE Receives Two Grants to Support Emergency Safehouse
WEAVE Safehouse Benefits from Essential Grants

Sacramento, CA — WEAVE has been awarded $10,000 from U.S. Bank and $5,000 from the TJX Foundation to support WEAVE’s emergency Safehouse.  The funds will help the 175 adults and 175 children who must enter the WEAVE Safehouse in the next year.  These families are fleeing from immediate danger and severe physical abuse.

WEAVE Receives $35,000 Grant to Expand Services for Women Veterans
Funding will increase outreach to women veterans and access to trauma-informed care.

WEAVE has been awarded $35,000 from Swords to Plowshares as part of a statewide effort to improve health indicators for women veterans in California.  The funds will be used to increase access to crisis intervention and therapeutic counseling services for women who have served in the military and are experiencing or have a history of Inter Personal Violence (IPV) including domestic violence and sexual assault. WEAVE has been awarded $35,000 from Kaiser Permanente Greater Sacramento Area Community Benefit Program to support WEAVE’s core domestic violence services.  The funds will be used to ensure that WEAVE can continue to offer lifesaving crisis intervention services including its safe and confidential Safehouse, 24-hour Support & Information Line, walk in Triage services and trauma-informed therapeutic counseling. Impact of Federal Sequestration on Domestic Violence Shelters Highlighted

WEAVE’s Executive Director, Beth Hassett, was recently interviewed by the non-partisan, nationally recognized blog ThinkProgress.org in response to the pending impact of the federal budget sequestration. Hassett was tapped to provide perspective of cuts on California’s domestic violence agencies within the article which looked at sequestration impact on a national level.
